Bad Staffelstein and surroundingBeautiful landmarks and history
Bad Staffelstein lies between the cultural monuments of the Banz Monestary (Kloster Banz), the Basilica of the 14 Saints (Vierzehnheiligen) and the Mountain called Staffelberg. Throughout the year tourists choose this destination for its recreational atmosphere and its great history, which can be traced back to the 4th century B.C.
Bad Staffelstein is the birthplace of the famous mathematician Adam Riese and a lovely jewel, with charming half timbered-houses.
The 1600 sqm Upper-Main Spa (Obermaintherme) is the warmest thermal Sole, containing iron and carbon dioxide in Bavaria, and is the pride of the town.
The Spa Gardens (Kurpark) with its two graduation houses (Gradierwerk), its sea-stage with about 900 open-air seats as well as modern adventure in- and outdoor pools (Aqua-Riese) provide diversity, relaxation and comfortable recreational activities. A spacious recreational area offers a whole variety of activities such as bathing, surfing, sailing or fishing. More than 200 km of marked cycling and hiking trails perfect the offering.
Throughout the summer months there are a series of musical events called “Musiksommer Obermain”. At the beginning of July the “Songs an einem Sommerabend” (“Songs on a Summer Evening”) at the Banz Monastery is the highlight of these events. Bad Staffelstein has become known for this far and wide. And don’t forget the Altstadtfest (Old Town Festival) in the heart of the town, which is always organised with a great deal of attention to detail.
Lichtenfels – not far from Staffelstein – lays on its famous “Lichtenfelser Korbmark” (the Lichtenfels wicker basket market). The legendary “Sandkerwa” (annual fair) in Bamberg is another well-known event that takes place each August. A holiday in Bad Staffelstein offers interesting and exciting events for people of all ages. Whether you are young or young at heart, you will always find something that is just right for you.
